RGYC Dinghy Fleet - RS Tera
The workhorse of the sailing school is the Laser Pico, a boat which is very versatile and hardwearing.
The younger children were finding this boat just a bit too big to handle comfortably. A number of Oppies were bought, a school version of the optimist. These proved to be right size but the children were finding that once put on a Pico they would not want to come back to the "bathtub".
An alternative boat was looked for and the RS Tera was selected. This has proved to be an excellent boat, one which the younger children thorougly enjoy and look forward to sail. It also proves easy to set up and reef and an ideal transition to the Pico and then the Laser 4.7.
As WhatBoat Magazine said, this is "an ideal boat to introduce kids to sailing - modern looking, fun to sail and exceptional value - buy one and burn the Playstation".
The photographs below were taken on the 28th December 2008, the first time that these new Teras were used. By coincidence it was also the last time that we were able to sail from the club before being landlocked and having to move to the 'temporary sailing facility'.
