Power boating in Gibraltar
In 2004 the RGYC became an RYA Training Centre and it started to teach the RYA Level 1, Level 2 and Safety Boat courses.
In 2010 the RGYC became an ICC Test Centre for power and sail. This now means that it can directly test for the Internatiional Certificate of Competence for ;
1 powerboats, up to 10 metres in length,
2 powerboats, up to 24 metres in length using candidate's own boat &
3 sailing boats, up to 24 metres in length using candidate's own boat (also includes award 1 above).
The powerboats available for courses are ;
1 Boston Whaler, 4 metres long with Suzuki 25hp tiller engine,
2 Valiant Rib, 4.9 metres long with Mercury 40hp,
3 Duarry Rib, 5.5 metres long with Suzuki 40hp engine &
4 Dipol Albatross, 6.15 metres long with Yamaha 65hp engine.
2011 prices for the courses are as follows;
Powerboat Level Two - direct assessment £200
Powerboat Level Two - two day tuition £300
Powerboat Level Two - children £100
ICC, direct assessments £200 ( RYA certification £40, free to RYA members)
